These patches correct many errors and inconsistencies in the game that Bethesda couldn't be bothered to fix on their own. Step 3: Download and install the Unofficial Oblivion Patch (UOP), as well as the Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch (USIP) and the Unofficial Official Mods Patch (UOMP) if you have installed those components.
Attempting to patch it will result in error messages.
If you are installing the Game of the Year version with Shivering Isles, your game will already be patched. Make sure you choose the Shivering Isles patch if you have that expansion. Your game MUST be patched to the latest (v) in order for most mods to work. Step 2: Download and install the Official Oblivion Patch. This prevents you from needing to run as Administrator or turn off UAC for mods to work. Many choose c:\Oblivion, or c:\Games\Oblivion, as their alternate install location. If you are running Windows Vista or later, make sure to install Oblivion OUTSIDE of the Program Files directory.
Step 1: Install Oblivion and any expansions and official mod packs you have for it. Meanwhile, just improvise with the instructions here. I'll add a second guide specifically for Skyrim once there are more mods and utilities out for it. This guide was written for Oblivion, but also mostly works for Skyrim. If you already have the game installed, re-installing clean is optional I have simply found this method to be the best way to prevent problems in the future.
2) General "failed to start" is best answered by checking the readme (and notes here) carefully, and then if still having problems, visiting the official forums. If you are brand-new to Oblivion mods or just looking for a clean start, use this guide to learn how to set up Oblivion for mod use. The main problem is likely the use of Internet explorer web browser display in several places, however changing that would require an amount of work. Of the two questions above: 1) Wine is generally not supported. Please use the official forums (and current relz/help topic) for questions, etc. Rather, this is the place to put the answers to frequently answered questions that aren't already covered in the Wrye Bash readme. This is not really the place to ask questions - that's best done on the forums.

Has anyone got any idea what I could have done wrong? My machine is a Windows XP 圆4 64 bit O/S, CPU is AMD2.2GHz dual core, 2Gb DDR3 RAM, updated Direct X 9.0c (updated today), soundcard is a Creative labs Audigy 2 ZS - drivers up to date. I don't know what's happening here, I've downloaded and installed Wyre Bash and Python 2.5.2, the trouble is it just refuses to start, it just sits there doing nothing, I cannot get any form of dump from it, nor do I get any error messages. GMessageList.gText = wx.(gBottom, -1, style = wx.NO_FULL_REPAINT_ON_RESIZE) - Unsigned comment by 88.113.60.192 ( talk) on 20 June 2009 Now, I don’t say this is bug in the code, but I have no idea what this should do? Before Wrye Bash has worked ”well” with Wine. Commenting this out will make the gui to pop. With Wine(yep, not Windows) there is something with this row. There’s no decent way to contact without hassle, so this shall do. Any further questions should be posted on the current relz topic - but again be sure to read and follow manual first - I'm notorious for having limited patience with questions that are already covered. Note that aside from installation you will need to poke around in the manual at least a bit in order to understand how to use Wrye Bash.
Anon 18:21, 18 January 2009 (GMT) It's explained in the manual (which also comes with the download). Absolutely insane, this is driving me crazy, do I have to type something in the command console or something? Because even though I've installed wrye there is *no* sign of it on my computer. so how in the world do you even start the program!!!!!? Nothing in start bar, searched my hard disk for 'wrye' only returned the setup file. Im running Vista if that affects anything.
